From Basics to Brilliance
NEET-UG is the single national-level entrance exam in India for admission to undergraduate medical courses like:
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery)
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery)
BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, BHMS (AYUSH courses)
BVSc & AH (Veterinary courses)
Also used for B.Sc. Nursing & Life Sciences courses in some institutes.
It is conducted every year by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
Nationality: Indian citizens, OCI, PIO, NRIs, and foreign nationals can apply.
Age Limit:
Minimum: 17 years (as of 31st Dec of admission year).
Maximum: No upper age limit (as per Supreme Court ruling, 2022).
Educational Qualification:
Must have passed 10+2 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.
Mode: Offline (pen-and-paper based)
Duration: 3 hours 20 minutes (200 minutes)
Total Questions: 200 (180 need to be answered)
Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
Marking Scheme:
+4 marks for correct answer
-1 mark for incorrect answer
0 marks for unattempted
Syllabus
The NEET syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum of Class 11 & 12:
Physics – Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electrodynamics, Modern Physics, etc.
Chemistry – Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry (XI & XII NCERT).
Biology – Plant & Animal Physiology, Genetics, Ecology, Human Physiology, Biotechnology, etc.
Reservation Policy
General EWS – 10%
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 27%
SC – 15%
ST – 7.5%
PwD – 5% seats reserved in each category
Application Process
Conducted online at neet.nta.nic.in
Application involves: Registration → Filling details → Uploading documents → Fee payment.
Participating Colleges
All Government & Private Medical/Dental Colleges in India (except AIIMS & JIPMER earlier, but now included under NEET).
AIIMS, JIPMER, and AFMC also accept NEET-UG scores.
